Micheal Castaldo illuminates the One Voice From Africa studio

The good fortune of being in media is receiving material ahead of time. Today was a day of GREAT FORTUNE – I received a high-def recording of PRAY’R performed by tenor Micheal Castaldo.

PRAY’R is exactly that – a delicate, incredible prayer; add the majesty of Micheal’s voice, a powerful orchestral arrangement, and mighty choral strength, and once again, Castaldo does it – a masterpiece!

This multi-lingual performance [Italian/English] touches the soul of the listener.

PRAY’R starts very gently and with ease. There is much beauty in the first notes and the introduction, very gentle indeed – it is as if you can imagine one preparing to pray. As Micheal starts singing in Italian, there is no need to listen very closely to know that this piece is coming from the heart – it is very evident from the very first note.

As the piece builds, Castaldo introduces English lyrics and then suddenly, with full choral presence,PRAY’R explodes with enormous presence. This composition encapsulates its listeners every sense. Immediately you feel compelled to press 'repeat' and listen to PRAY’R repeatedly which is precisely what I am doing as I write!

When you hear PRAY’R, you will experience the emotions of love, kindness, and wonder!

Written and produced by Micheal Castaldo and Stein B. Svendsen, PRAY’R will be released shortly and it is my guess that this composition will become an international 'anthem' from which we all will draw enormous inspiration. This Just In – Greek tenor and frequent guest on One Voice From Africa, Mario Frangoulis, will be playing a key role in the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics which kick-off on June 25, 2011 in Athens, Greece.


The Special Olympics, founded by Eunice Kennedy-Shriver, set the example for all of us that the human spirit can rise above all odds. Mario Frangoulis as a recognized international artist and humanitarian is a perfect addition to the star-studded line-up for these incredible opening ceremonies!

NEW TOURISM ROUTE FOR THEEWATERSKLOOF - WESTERN CAPE - SOUTH AFRICA

Theewaterskoof Municipality in the Cape Overberg is planning to launch the Cape Country Meander in September 2010, a self-drive route to showcase the region's wine, nature, adventure and sport attractions. Theewaterskloof is an agricultural region covering the towns of Grabouw, Villiersdorp, Botrivier, Grenadendal, Greyton, Caledon, Tesslesdal, and Riversonderend.

Visitors making their way along the south Cape coast to explore the Atlantic coastline, before heading off to the Garden Route, often overlook these towns.

To improve the area's competitiveness in the tourism industry, the Theewaterskloof Municipality has announced it is planning to launch the Cape Country Meander Route in September 2010. Simultaneously, a multi-pronged tourism development strategy to revive and transform the local economy, and that will benefit local communities, SMME’s (small-medium micro enterprises), and tourism product and service providers, is being implemented.

The region of Theewaterskloof is recognised for its fruit and wine farms. Elgin and Grabouw together comprise the apple-growing centre of the Cape, and Bot River’s Chenin Blanc wines win international awards.

The area lends itself to outdoor sports like mountain biking, hiking, cross-country marathons, water skiing, boating and fishing. A number of towns on the route fall within the Cape Floral Kingdom World Heritage Site, giving visitors access to the Green Mountain Eco Route (the world’s first biodiverse wine route) and the Groenland Mountain Conservancy in the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.

Under the theme ‘revive your love of touring’, the Cape Country Meander Route will be marketed as a self-drive discovery experience as opposed to a typical A to B route. Wine, nature and adventure sport enthusiasts looking to get out of town and explore country back roads, will be able to design their own itinerary, and travel at their own pace, using the variety of attractions and accommodation options along the route.

Compared to other regions in the Overberg, Theewaterskloof is underdeveloped and largely undiscovered. It's this ‘barefoot and unplugged’ quality that the region's stakeholders hope will lure new local and international visitors to the area.
